Mortal Kombat 11 has changed a fair amount since launch, and will continue to do so as more characters and patches are introduced. If you aren't a fan of a specific tournament variation, you can make you own - there are an extensive number of special moves for you to try out that can make a character better suit your style of play. When ranking characters, we used two tournament variations as they were specifically balanced for competitive play, and act as a universal point of comparison for all of the characters. If you like playing Kung Lao, then play Kung Lao! Just because a character is average in our eyes does not make them unplayable. Two, it's worth noting is all characters are viable. One, that this list is subjective, and is based on our own opinion of how good a character is. We looked at a range of factors such as a character's special moves, the range and speed of their normal moves, how easy their high damage combos were to perform, and so on. We've ranked every Mortal Kombat 11 fighter - including every DLC addition - into a single tier list. Hopefully they add more variations soon and balance some of the current ones I really think this game shouldn't have released without every move in at least one variation. Something needs to be done about this systems, I don't have the answer nor will I claim to have enough knowledge to think of the answers.

I could name more examples but I think y'all get the point. I don't think any character is broken I think it's the variation system that's broken and determines how good or bad a character is imagine if Kung Lao had the great Kung Lao or if erron black didn't have skud shot to make everything safe. Like honestly what the hell, the system doesn't feel balanced at all some characters literally get all of their best moves in one variation and other characters don't even get them at all. However erron black is the same only 52 card pick up has all of his good moves in one variation where the kollector doesn't have his best move in any variation. I'm going to skip Baraka as he is like kotal khan one good variation one not so good. However his second variation with the jaguar ( you know his coolest move) is unsafe and has no damage like I'm sorry but what is blood totem doing in that variation.

His first variation with the command grab is good you have so many tools at your disposals my man is just a little slow. Next is kotal Kahn now I know the consensus is he's bad but the variation system doesn't do him any favors.

So you can't combo off of his back 2,3 which is one of his fastest starters, you can't combo off of his full range from 33, and I think kollector is good because he has such long range normals. The kollector imo has some of his best damage and combos extensions locked away because none of his variations use the chakram. I play kollector, kotal khan, baraka, and erron black. So let me use the characters I play as examples of how the variation system affects each one individually.
